Chapter 6: Managing NetWall Nodes

6.1. Overview

InCenter can be used to centrally manage and/or monitor one or more NetWall nodes.

The following setup options are available:

  • Centralized Management with Optional Monitoring Setup

For centralized management to be enabled, communication between the InCenter server and NetWall node needs to be set up and then the node can be added to InCenter so its configuration can be imported. Doing this is described in Section 6.2, Setting Up Centralized Management.

InCenter can also be used for node monitoring by receiving, storing and analyzing log event messages sent by NetWall nodes. Monitoring can optionally be added to centralized management by configuring nodes to send log messages back to InCenter. This is discussed further in Section 6.3, Setting Up Monitoring.

  • Monitoring Only Setup

Monitoring can be set up without also enabling centralized management. Doing this is described in Section 6.3, Setting Up Monitoring.

Note that it is possible to have some NetWall nodes under centralized management (with optional monitoring) while others only have monitoring enabled.

Group Membership is Supported

InCenter Group membership can be specified for NetWall nodes when they are added. Group membership can also be specified later, after adding a node. A single group can contain multiple nodes and multiple groups can be created.

However, a group cannot contain both NetShield and NetWall nodes mixed together. When a Group object is created, its NodeType property must be set according to the type of nodes it will contain. The default NodeType value is NetWall.

Using groups is described further in Chapter 15, Node Groups.
