Chapter 2: Installation

This section describes the installation of the InCenter software distribution on a server running under a suitable hypervisor.

2.1. Virtual Machine Resource Requirements

The following are the resource requirements of the virtual machine which runs InCenter.

A. Minimum installation resource requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 Gbytes of RAM.
  • A minimum of 40 Gbytes of disk space.
  • A minimum of 2 processor cores.

The above should be sufficient for:

  • 1-50 nodes.
  • 1-1,000 IP rule set entries per node.
  • Log receive rates of 100-1,000 logs/second.

B. Medium sized installation resource requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 Gbytes of RAM.
  • A minimum of 60 Gbytes of disk space.
  • A minimum of 2 processor cores.

The above should be sufficient for:

  • 50-1,000 nodes.
  • 1-1,000 IP rule set entries per node.
  • Log receive rates of 1,000-2,000 logs/second.

C. Large size installation resource requirements:

  • A minimum of 16 Gbytes of RAM.
  • A minimum of 120 Gbytes of disk space.
  • A minimum of 8 processor cores.

The above should be sufficient for:

  • 1,000-10,000 nodes.
  • 1,000-10,000 IP rule set entries per node.
  • Log receive rates of 10,000 logs/second.

Other Disk Space Considerations

The disk space requirement can be larger depending on how the following features are configured and used:

  • Revision history retention - The revision history may allow large number of entries to be stored. This topic is described further in: Chapter 12, Revision History.

  • Site license monitoring - License violations are stored persistently. These are described further in Chapter 13, License Management.

  • Log Server - The default enabled log server has retention enabled and is configured to use at most 10 Gbytes of disk size. Changing the log server settings so that the server stores more log data may also require extra disk space.
